Ronald K. Thomas

The Mid-Missouri Civil War Round Table deeply regrets the passing of one of its longtime members Ron Thomas. Ron was for many years was its main driving force behind the Round Table, frequently serving as a Speaker and discussion leader. He will be missed by all of us.

Ron  was born February 22, 1942 in St. Louis where he grew up. He  began working for the US Postal Service as a Mail Carrier in 1961 and he married his wife, Margaret of 37 years in 1967 in Santa Fe.

Ron retired from the Postal Service after 36 years. He also was an avid world traveler and worked as a. fund raiser for the YMCA, as well as, a coach and umpire in. the Mexico Missouri Youth League. He had served as president of the National Association of Retired Federal Workers and was an avid tennis player.

Ron will always be remembered at the Round Table for his outgoing nature. He would always introduce himself to new visitors and made them feel right at home. Ron enthusiasm for the Civil War brought many new members from the Mexico area to our meetings and for this and his other contributions to our organization he will be sorely missed.

Ronald K. Thomas, 61, passed from this life on Monday, Jan. 12, 2004.

On fame's eternal camping-ground
Their silent tents are spread
And glory guards with solemn round
The bivouac of our dead
